Dear Creativity Squared Member,

Hello from Together Digital’s national conference where I just presented my new keynote, “Farewell, Information Age — Welcome to the Age of Imagination.”

I’m really excited about the evolution of this presentation, so stay tuned! And, of course, reach out if you’re interested in having me present or host a workshop for your organization, school, or event!

Last night, I got a preview of BLINK at Music Hall and couldn’t be more excited for the light art festival to take over the city today through the twentieth. If you missed last week’s episode with BLINK projection light mapping artist, Chaske Haverkos — definitely check it out!

For Creativity Squared’s 69th episode, we sat down with Kaila Love, Hip Hop artist, entrepreneur, and A.I. automation specialist.

As an early adopter of blockchain technology, Kaila has been investing in crypto since 2017. In March 2021, she made history as one of the first female rappers to sell her music as an NFT. This pioneering move led her to author the book "NFTs for Music," establishing her as a thought leader at the intersection of music and emerging technology.

I met Kaila at MidwestCon after her keynote presentation titled "Rhythm and Bytes," and you're in for a treat today as we dive into her go-getter and innovative mind. She's a forward-thinker who's vocal about the potential of A.I. to revolutionize the music industry and propel artists beyond streaming into new opportunities to connect with and provide experiences to their fans.

In our conversation, you'll hear Kaila's journey from creating her first A.I. bot to developing A.I. education programs to empower musicians. We explore her views on the future of music NFTs, the ethical considerations of A.I. in creative industries, and her vision for new revenue models that benefit artists in the A.I. era.

From hip-hop to high-tech, join us as Kaila shares her passion for music, technology, and humanity, all the while maintaining her roots as the "A.I. Homegirl"!

Following my keynote on digital cloning at MAICON, I met Michael Stelzner, founder of Social Media Examiner and the Social Media Marketing World conference. Michael interviewed me for his Social Media Marketing Podcast, set to air in November. After the interview, he shared an advance copy of the Generative AI Marketing Industry Report that JUST DROPPED PUBLICALLY. This comprehensive report is not only packed with valuable insights but is also available for FREE. Marketers will find it an invaluable resource that they won't want to miss!

With all of the A.I. news flooding our feeds and screens, we’ve got you covered. News to check out includes:

Video game strike: SAG-AFTRA actors, companies to resume talks Los Angeles Times —  The union representing video game actors in a strike against generative A.I. job displacement, is set to resume negotiations with major gaming companies, including Activision and Electronic Arts, later this month. The actors are demanding that game developers notify them and obtain their consent before using AI to replicate their voices or likenesses. The strike has led to side deals with at least 80 games agreeing to SAG-AFTRA’s A.I. terms.

Anthropic’s CEO thinks AI will lead to a utopia — he just needs a few billion dollars first The Verge — Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei envisions a future where artificial general intelligence (AGI) could revolutionize the world, compressing a century of medical progress into a decade, curing mental illnesses, and even uploading minds to the cloud. It won’t be cheap though, with Anthropic seeking to raise funds at a $40 billion valuation.

Adobe teases AI tools for animating text and removing distractions The Verge — At its annual MAX conference this week, Adobe teased a handful of A.I. projects aimed at simplifying complex tasks in content creation. These tools, which are in early development, include Project Scenic, which allows users to generate and manipulate 3D scenes to create 2D images; Project Motion, a two-step tool for creating and enhancing animated graphics; and Project Clean Machine, which removes distractions and corrects overexposed footage in videos and images.

‘I’m empowering my song to go and make love with different people’: Imogen Heap on how her AI twin will rewrite pop The Guardian — Imogen Heap, the pioneering English Electropop musician, is using A.I. to create a digital twin (dubbed “Mogen”) designed to replicate her voice and answer questions about her life and work. Heap says that she wants to streamline her creative process and provide fans with a deeper connection to her music. Mogen will eventually assist in live performances by responding to fans’ musical suggestions in real-time. Despite concerns about A.I.’s ethical implications, Heap believes in its potential to revolutionize music and foster meaningful collaborations.

Startup can identify deepfake video in real time Ars Technica — Reality Defender is an up-and-coming startup focused on combating AI-generated deepfake videos in real time, even during live video calls. The technology could become an important part of our digital world as deepfake scams are becoming more prevalent and predatory. The company plans to first release a Zoom plug-in for real-time detection in a closed beta launch.

Mistral releases new AI models optimized for laptops and phones TechCrunch — French AI startup Mistral introduced its first generative A.I. models, “Les Ministraux,” designed for edge devices like laptops and phones. Ministral 3B and Ministral 8B offer a context window of 128,000 tokens. They’re optimized for local, privacy-first applications such as on-device translation and autonomous robotics. While Ministral 8B is available for research purposes, both models can be accessed via Mistral’s cloud platform. Mistral claims these models outperform comparable ones from Meta and Google on several benchmarks.

‘It’s not me, it’s just my face’: the models who found their likenesses had been used in AI propaganda The Guardian — Synthesia, a London-based A.I. company, is facing backlash after its technology was used to create deepfake videos for propaganda purposes. A group of models discovered that their likenesses were used without their knowledge to support authoritarian regimes. Synthesia, which achieved “unicorn” status for its A.I.-generated avatars, claims to have strengthened its content moderation processes.

Tales Reveals Gaming AI: Enables Users to Build & Play Any Game Decrypt — Tales, an A.I. gaming project developed by a team of Stanford PhDs and game developers, wants to put players in control of game design. Their software introduces the concept of a Large World Model (LWM) that can generate entire digital worlds using simple text prompts, allowing users to create fully functional games without any development experience. The model is trained on gameplay data, video content, 3D assets, and descriptive metadata, enabling it to understand and generate complex game elements and mechanics. Tales will be available for early access in November.
