Creativity Squared: On Adding Value with New Forms of AR & A.I. Art Expression
āWhat will be the art form of the 21st century?ā
Dear Creativity Squared Member,
The future of art is here! Discover how extended and augmented reality are reshaping the art landscape on Creativity Squaredās Episode 26.
Sergiu Ardelean, our guest in Episode 26, is a serial entrepreneur from Austria with a passion for pushing boundaries. Heās the CEO and Co-founder of Artivive which is a startup venture founded in 2017 that fuses haptic and digital art with the captivating power of augmented reality. Artivive is the AR solution for artists and has the vision to change how art is created and consumed.
Artivive has offices in Europe, the US, and China, and an amazing community of over 250,000 creatives spanning 190 countries. Artivive is collaborating with some of the most renowned museums and galleries in Vienna, Munich, San Francisco, Seoul, and Shanghai. Youāll hear in the episode how the art scene is embracing augmented art to explore new dimensions of artistic expression.
Sergiu and I met at the BOLD Unconference, a fantastic and inspiring event that the Austrian Chamber of Commerce hosted across four cities in Austria, including a stop in Linz for Ars Electronica. And Iām so excited to share our conversation with you today that started on a charter bus from Salzburg to Vienna where I got to see postcards come to life with Artivive. I couldnāt be more excited to have Sergiu on the show ā listen to Episode 26 today!
In todayās episode, youāll discover how to move AR beyond a gimmick as a medium to add value to enhance stories and experiences around art. Youāll hear case studies about museums and independent artists using Artivive to bring artworks to life. Sergiu discusses how Artivive uses A.I. and machine learning, and also shares his thoughts on the new Apple Vision Pro and how AR glasses will become more seamlessly integrated into our lives. Sergiu sees A.I. as a tool that can enhance human creativity and storytelling versus replace it, and believes that human creativity will always be needed. He also shares that art will adapt and use new mediums as a mirror of society.

I just started playing with it, but did get some copy inspiration, and if you have a podcast, itās definitely worth checking out.

āYouāre deciding on buying an artwork because of the story, because of the artist, because of what itās representing. And itās much easier to tell the story if you can connect it to a digital storytelling tool, because then you can relate much easier, and then itās becoming emotional. And then itās not just an artwork, but itās a story. Itās an experience.ā

SAG-AFTRA and major studios delay bargaining session to Thursday Los Angeles Times ā Studios and striking actors are expected back at the bargaining table today after resuming talks on Tuesday with a new offer from studios. Celebrities and the CEO of Disney leaned on their respective groups recently to continue negotiations.
AI voice clones mimic politicians and celebrities, reshaping reality Washington Post ā A.I. is increasingly being used as a disinformation tool around the world. Slovakiaās national election was disrupted by deep faked audio of the countryās progressive leader plotting to rig the vote. Generated content is still detectable for now but social media companies struggle to mitigate such campaigns proliferating.
Eureka! NVIDIA Research Breakthrough Puts New Spin on Robot Learning Nvidia Blog ā A.I. is even going to steal your party tricks thanks to Nvidiaās new A.I. self-reinforcing robot learning loop. Given a task for the robot to perform, an A.I. agent will query an LLM to design a reward system to reinforce the robotās progress. After an attempt, the agent will collect data on the robotās performance and ask the LLM to adjust the reward structure.
Synthetic data is suddenly making very real ripples MarketingWeek ā Brands may no longer need the publicās input to understand public perception with the rise of A.I. generated synthetic data. Recent studies have shown that data manufactured from A.I. analysis of online sentiment can simulate similar data collected painstakingly from real humans with 90% accuracy.
EU may fail to pass its AI Act in 2023 The Verge ā With only two meetings left in 2023, disagreements over the precision of proposed A.I. regulation may delay the worldās first significant A.I. regulations. AI ābreakthroughā: neural net has human-like ability to generalize language Nature ā Large language models need massive data troves to learn and sometimes still hallucinate. But new research shows how neural nets can demonstrate the human-like ability to generalize new concepts that they havenāt been trained on. The methodology could lead to advances that reduce how much data an A.I. needs to process in order to āunderstandā new concepts.
This new data poisoning tool lets artists fight back against generative AI MIT Technology Review ā Get your Guy Fawkes mask out: a new tool gives artists access to vigilante justice against A.I. companies by turning their image into a digital trojan horse. Nightshade, as the tool is called, puts some subtle code in the image that tricks A.I. into interpreting the image as something else. For instance, an image of a cat might be Nightshade-coded as a dog. Then try asking the image generator for a picture of a dog.
